World Cup on natural track ready to start

This year the World Cup is being sponsored by Würz Energy for the first time. The contract runs for two years. The German company is active in the “renewable energy” sector. Managing director Theo-Josef Beisch about the cooperation: “Both the tobogganers on natural tracks and we as a company in the field of renewable energy rely on nature. This is an important common basis on which our cooperation is built. We are pleased that we can support the World Cup this year.”

The starting signal for the 19th Würz Energy World Cup on natural track will be given on December 9th in Novouralsk, Russia (70 km north of Ekaterinenburg) - and with a double World Cup. From December 9th to 12th, the lugers will be fighting for the first points on the natural track. Novouralsk was already the starting point of an exciting season last year. The other World Cup stations this winter: Gsies, Kindberg in Austria and Unterammergau in Germany. The World Cup final: will take place in Olang, venue of the FIL European Championships 2008 and the FIL World Championships 2000. From February 25th to 27th, 2011, the final World Cup points for the overall ranking and the crystal balls will be at stake again.

The absolute highlight of the season: the World Championships in Umhausen, Austria from January 26th to 30th, 2011. The World Cup venue is well prepared and preparations are in full swing. It has been ten years since Austria last organized the FIL World Championships on natural track. Renate Gietl from Feldthurns, reigning world champion and defending champion, was able to win a silver medal back then - in 2001. The other defending champions: Patrick Pigneter from Völs in both the single-seater competition and the double-seater competition with his congenial partner Florian Clara. Pigneter is looking forward to the World Cup and the World Cup: “Participants, athletes, toboggan fans – everyone is looking forward to the start of the World Cup and of course to the World Cup in Ötztal. I'm really looking forward to the World Cup in Umhausen. It will definitely be a very special experience.”

In addition to the six World Cup events and the World Championships in Umhausen, there are two other important events on the program for the coming season: the FIL Junior World Championships in Lasa and the FIL Youth Games in St. Sebastian in Austria.

World Cup on natural track ready to start

The World Cup winter in luge on natural track can begin. Yesterday, the President of the International Luge Federation (FIL) Josef Fendt opened the 2010/11 World Cup season with the season-opening press conference.
