Farewells in the Ski World Cup: These stars are leaving

When the 2026/27 Ski World Cup kicks off in Sölden on the last weekend of October, numerous prominent names will be missing. Here's an overview of all the retirements.

As is typical after the Olympic Games, numerous athletes have ended their careers. Further retirements are also imminent, especially for Lara Gut-Behrami, Michelle Gisin (both Switzerland), and Federica Brignone, whose future as an exceptional athlete remains uncertain. They are still recovering from serious injuries.


Below is a list of who has hung up their skis after the end of this season: In French ski team Adrien Theaux, Alexis Pinturault, and Clara Direz have called it quits. With Pinturault, the most successful ski racer of all time, along with Jean-Claude Killy, is retiring from competition.

The bloodletting is also significant among the GermanIn addition to speed specialists Andreas Sander and Romed Baumann, slalom skiers Anton Tremmel and Sebastian Holzmann have also retired.

Likewise, the Swiss They will manage without long-standing top riders. The retirement of Niels Hintermann – who took a break last year due to cancer but made a strong comeback this year – came as a surprise, and the technical riders Daniele Sette and Marc Rochat, as well as speed specialist Joana Hählen, are also leaving.

AJ Ginnis, Greek slalom specialist With American roots and a sensational silver medalist in the slalom at the 2023 World Ski Championships, he had to withdraw due to injury. Dave Ryding (Great Britain), the 2022 Kitzbühel slalom winner, is also leaving the big stage of competitive skiing.

In the Slovenian ski ladies Ilka Stuhec, winner of eleven World Cup races, and Ana Bucik-Jogan have ended their careers.

And South TyrolTwo renowned athletes have said "goodbye" here: Simon Maurberger and Hannes Zingerle. The two technical specialists competed in their final races at the Italian Slalom Championships in Sestriere at the beginning of April. Maurberger finished fourth, while Zingerle came in seventh, behind the winner, Alex Vinatzer.
