To a special place: Brignone returns

Federica Brignone will also compete in the next World Cup races as preparation for the Winter Olympics in Cortina.

The Italian skier made her comeback at Kronplatz a week ago after a 292-day injury break, finishing sixth in the giant slalom. Now, a downhill (Friday) and a Super-G (Saturday) are on the women's program in Crans-Montana. Brignone will also be competing, after the 35-year-old skipped the giant slalom in Spindleruv Mlyn.

In Crans-Montana, Brignone won the combined event four times in a row from 2017 to 2020, when it was still part of the World Cup. The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) has nominated Elena Curtoni, Nadia Delago, Nicol Delago, Sofia Goggia, Roberta Melesi, Laura Pirovano, and Asja Zenere for the World Cup races in Switzerland. This means that two South Tyrolean skiers, the Delago sisters, will also be competing.

Remembering the victims

The Italian skiers will wear black armbands in remembrance of the victims of the fire that broke out on New Year's Eve. The organizers of the World Cup stage have already cancelled the supporting program weeks ago in commemoration of the victims and will also not have any sponsors present on the course. The event kicks off on Wednesday with the first downhill training run for the women.
