Azzurre shine in the European Cup

Even though the giant slalom on Tuesday in Oppdal (NOR) did not go as planned for Sophie Mathiou, the Aosta native is still in contention to win the European Cup giant slalom standings.

With 761 points in the European Cup, Alice Pazzaglia leads the overall standings by a significant margin over Stefanie Grob (541). Italy's Mathiou also leads the giant slalom standings, although she finished no higher than 18th in Oppdal on Tuesday. If Mathiou maintains her lead until the end of the season, she would secure a guaranteed starting place in the Ski World Cup next season.

Instead of Mathiou, another Italian athlete shone on Tuesday. Ilaria Ghisalberti couldn't hold onto her lead from the halfway point, but still finished second (+0,13 seconds) behind Switzerland's Vanessa Kasper. Austria's Nina Astner came in third (+0,42 seconds).

Swiss double victory in the men's competition

The men's European Cup team is also currently competing in Norway. In a giant slalom race in Norefjell on Tuesday, Switzerland secured a one-two finish. Lenz Hächler edged out his teammate Fadri Janutin (+0,06 seconds) and Frenchman Guerlain Favre (+0,08 seconds) in a nail-biting finish down to hundredths of a second. The best Swiss skier was Simon Talacci in eighth place.
