Azzurri are positioning themselves on the Stelvio

The second downhill training run took place in Bormio on Thursday. Italy's downhill skiers appear to be positioning themselves for Saturday's Olympic race (11:30 a.m.). Three of them finished at the top of the timesheets in the second training run.

Was in first training session on Wednesday American Ryan Cochran-Siegle was the fastest on Wednesday, but a day later Mattia Casse posted the fastest time. The 35-year-old was around four seconds faster than Cochran-Siegle had been on Wednesday. This is remarkable, even though the fresh snow from Tuesday had completely melted off the slope. Furthermore, visibility was perfect in the second training run. On Wednesday, it had still snowed lightly.

Behind Casse, two more Italians, Florian Schieder (+0,45 seconds) and Giovanni Franzoni (+0,87), finished second and third, respectively. Christof Innerhofer, who will not compete in Saturday's Olympic downhill, finished seventh (+1,18). The experienced skier from Gais is participating in the training runs because he will be competing in the Super-G.

Favorites take it easy.

The group of favorites, including Dominik Paris (16th), Marco Odermatt (23rd), and Vincent Kriechmayr (12th), took it a bit easier. The Stelvio Pass is extremely demanding, and a third training run is scheduled for Friday.
