The first women’s downhill of the season on Saturday is already a big topic of conversation. The return of Sofia Goggia, the comeback of Lindsey Vonn (as a forerunner) – there is plenty of excitement. The Azzurre certainly seem to be feeling right at home in Beaver Creek. In the first training session on Wednesday, Federica Brignone set the best time, followed by the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami (+0,39) and Brignone's teammate Marta Bassino (+0,40).
Three giant slalom specialists in the first three places - that means that the course on Saturday is likely to be quite technical. This is also confirmed by Sofia Goggia, who set the 12th time of the field in her first downhill training since her serious shin injury. "The slope is very steep and very technical. I will watch the videos carefully," said the skier from Bergamo.
comeback of Nicol Delago
Nicol Delago finished training in 22nd place. It will be interesting to see how the Val Gardena native performs, as she is making her comeback after breaking her collarbone (suffered during the training camp in South America). Nadia Delago (28th), Vicky Bernardi (34th) and Sara Thaler (46th) follow behind. Laura Pirovano, another Azzurra, made it into the top 10 in seventh place. There are training sessions on Thursday and Friday, and the first women's downhill of the season will take place on Saturday (from 19 p.m. CET). On Sunday, the weekend will be rounded off with a Super-G - also at 19 p.m.
