Marco Odermatt currently leads the Giant Slalom World Cup standings. The reigning Olympic champion in this discipline has so far won silver (in the team combined) and bronze (in the Super-G) in Bormio. But anyone who knows the dominant skier of recent years knows that only gold counts for Odermatt. His last chance for gold comes on Saturday (10:00/13:30) in the Giant Slalom.
It won't be easy for Odermatt, as he faces stiff competition in the giant slalom from Lucas Braathen (Brazil), fellow countryman Loic Meillard, Stefan Brennsteiner, Marco Schwarz (both Austria), Henrik Kristoffersen and Atle Lie McGrath (both Norway). Odermatt could also be among those competing. Alex Vinatzer (Starting number 12). The Val Gardena native is currently ranked eighth in the Giant Slalom World Cup standings and has already been on the podium this winter.

Vinatzer wants to redeem himself in Bormio after the disappointment in the team combined event. With the Enneberger Tobias Kastlunger (30) A second South Tyrolean will also start in the giant slalom. From an Italian perspective, the Nonsberg native will also be competing. Luca De Aliprandini (21), who became vice world champion in Cortina. We can look forward to... John Franzoni (31). The Italian actually has good potential for giant slalom, but has never finished higher than 24th in the World Cup.
