At the beginning of April, the best season of the 35-year-old's career ended in shock. In her fall at the Italian Championships, Brignone fractured her tibia and fibula, broke the head of her tibia and fibula, and tore her cruciate ligament. The Italian was on crutches for months, but is now back on her own two feet. Skiing, however, is currently out of the question. To accelerate the healing process, last season's overall World Cup winner has now decided to undergo arthroscopic surgery.
The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) announced this on Tuesday. According to the report, the procedure was necessary to "improve the range of motion of the left knee." According to the attending physician, Andrea Panzeri, the operation was a complete success.
Everything is going as it should
"We had planned to perform this arthroscopy to check the condition of the joint and, above all, to improve mobility," Panzeri explained. "The joint was cleaned. Federica will need to be a little more careful with her movements in the next few days, but the procedure was performed specifically to speed up her recovery and allow her to train more effectively. It also gave us the opportunity to check the inside of the knee and make sure everything is OK. She'll start physical therapy again tomorrow."Highly decorated: Federica Brignone © Pentaphoto
Brignone is completing his rehabilitation at JMedical, the medical center of Juventus Turin, where numerous sports stars, including Jannik Sinner, are regular guests.
