“Bye bye”: A young Austrian’s retirement from skiing

On Thursday, ski star Thomas Dreßen unexpectedly announced the end of his career. However, it wasn't the only resignation of the day.

Ending your career in the middle of the season is an extraordinary thing, but it has happened again and again in recent years. The latest example is Thomas Dreßen, who announced his resignation on Thursday. On the same day, a young Austrian woman also drew a line in the sand. Magdalena Kappaurer, the younger sister of the World Cup experienced Elisabeth Kappaurer, said goodbye to the ski stage.

Magdalena Kappaurer is only 23 years old, but her skiing adventure is now over. She was actually supposed to make her World Cup debut last winter in Sölden, but the bad weather and the race cancellation prevented that. So she was denied an appearance in the premier ski class. Kappaurer celebrated her greatest success at the Junior World Championships when she won the silver medal in the Super-G in 2021. The decision to end her career was also due to the fact that there will no longer be a place for her in the European Cup, the second highest racing series, in the near future.

Relief after resignation

“Now that I have finally decided to end my career, I feel something like relief. After the races in St. Lambrecht shortly before Christmas, I made the decision over the holidays. “Several things came together,” Kappaurer told the newspaper Crown. She wrote on social media: “Thank you! Bye bye and see you next time.”
