Damper after touching podium: Schieder injured his knee

In Kitzbühel, Florian Schieder achieved the second podium of his career. Just a few hours later, the man from Castelrotto was with Dr. Christian Fink in the MRI tube in Innsbruck. The result: Schieder's knee is affected.

“If things don’t go as planned…” says an Instagram post by Florian Schieder, which the Castelrotto resident posted on Wednesday afternoon. This refers to the meniscus injury in his right knee, which forced the runner-up on the first Hahnenkamm downhill run last Friday to take a break. Schieder will not be competing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen this weekend. Instead, the South Tyrolean will recover so that he can take part in the downhill runs in Chamonix (February 2nd/3rd).

Schieder has had pain in his right knee since the Wengen races. In Kitzbühel Schieder was already limping, but as soon as he was on skis it was more or less okay. “My physical therapist got the pain under control,” said Schieder. The examination followed on Monday by the renowned knee specialist Dr. Fink in the Hochrum Clinic. Schieder diagnosed a damaged meniscus in his right knee. At the 2021 World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo, his left knee was affected.

After the descents in Chamonix, Schieder also wants to compete in Kvitfjell. It is still unclear whether the speed specialist will compete in the World Cup final. This makes Schieder dependent on his position in the world rankings. If he is in the top 10 of the downhill list after Kvitfjell, he will probably not contest the final.
