The Ahrntal valley rejoices with Sara Allemand

Italy has a new winning runner in the European Cup – and one with South Tyrolean roots: Sara Allemand is currently causing a sensation in the second highest racing series.

The 25-year-old ski racer celebrated her second consecutive victory on Tuesday in St. Anton, once again triumphing in the Super-G. Allemand comes from Bardonecchia, but also has a special connection to the Puster Valley: her mother Walli is from the Ahrntal Valley, and years ago she moved to the Piedmontese winter sports resort near the French border.

For Allemand, who also regularly competes in the World Cup this season, this is already her third victory of the season and her third career win in the European Cup. In total, she has now stood on the podium six times.

Leaders in the overall European Cup standings

In St. Anton, she prevailed with a strong run of 56,28 seconds, beating Norway's Marte Monsen by 24 hundredths of a second and Austria's Vanessa Nussbaumer by 61 hundredths of a second. She was the only Italian in the top ten; Ivy Schölzhorn from Wipptal did not finish.

Thanks to her two Super-G victories, Allemand now leads the discipline standings with the maximum of 200 points, and she also takes over the overall lead in the European Cup.
