Emily Schöpf was the fastest among the 70 skiers who competed in the second Super-G of the European Cup stage in Sarntal on Wednesday in fresh snow. The race was originally scheduled for Tuesday. The 25-year-old from Montafon, who finished second on Monday, posted the best time on the Schöneben slope in the Reinswald ski area (1:16.07 minutes). This secured her fourth European Cup victory and her first in a Super-G.
“Today was a fantastic day. I was so glad we were able to race today,” said the winner. Her compatriot Lisa Grill finished second, 61 hundredths of a second behind. The 25-year-old Austrian thus secured her first podium finish in Sarntal. It was also Anna Schilcher's first podium on the Schöneben slope: Schöpf and Grill's teammate, also 25, finished third behind her fellow Austrians, just 5 hundredths of a second behind the second-place finisher. Germany's Fabiano Dorigo, however, was unlucky: she missed the podium by just one hundredth of a second and finished fourth.
Allemand beste Azzurra
The best of the 24 Italian skiers in the race was Sara Allemand, who finished in fifth place. The 25-year-old Italian, leader in the Super-G European Cup, crossed the finish line 85 hundredths of a second behind the winner. "It went quite well. I finished fifth. I struggled a bit in the middle section because I prefer slightly harder snow. You have to have more confidence and push harder, and I didn't do that enough, but let's take the positives," said the skier from Bardonecchia. Also among the top 10 skiers of the day was Ilaria Ghisalberti, who finished eighth, 1,62 seconds behind Schöpf.Sara Thaler from St. Ulrich missed the top 10 by 18 hundredths of a second, despite being the best of the local athletes in the second Super-G of the FIS Alpine Skiing European Cup in Sarntal. "Considering how much snow fell yesterday and that the weather wasn't great today either, they did a fantastic job. I made too many mistakes today, but it was good for boosting my confidence," commented Thaler. The other South Tyrolean skiers finished further back: Vicky Bernardi came in 26th, Rita Granruaz 30th, Ivy Schölzhorn 31st, Leonie Girtler 33rd, and Arianna Putzer 39th. Nora Damian did not finish the race.
