German superiority in Andorra

Emma Aicher won the first of two World Cup Super-G races in Soldeu and caught up in the globe race.

The German skier cruised to victory on Saturday, finishing ahead of New Zealander Alice Robinson (+0,88) and Swiss skier Corinne Suter (+0,98), who won Friday's downhill. Sofia Goggia was the best Italian in sixth place, followed by Laura Pirovana in eighth. Olympic champion Federica Brignone, after a flawed run, could only manage 15th place.

Aicher celebrated her fifth World Cup victory and her third this winter. She had previously won the downhill in St. Moritz in December and a Super-G in Tarvisio in January. In the downhill World Cup standings, Goggia still holds a 20-point lead over Robinson and a 96-point lead over Aicher.

Sara Thaler also made it into the points, finishing in the top 30: The 21-year-old from St. Ulrich achieved her second-best World Cup result, finishing 27th, after her 23rd place in Zauchensee in January.

The next women's Super-G race will take place in Andorra on Sunday (10:15 am).
