She and her teammates were busy all week anyway, as were the four South Tyroleans who participated in the Junior World Championships in Narvik. Here's the usual alpine skiing overview.
Four Super-G races were held on Friday on the Schöneben slope in Reinswald. The first two, one for women and one for men, counted as the state championships. The local championships were originally scheduled for February in Watles but had to be canceled due to weather. This time, the conditions were perfect, and two state team athletes emerged victorious in the U21 category. In the women's race, Ivy Schölzhorn (Sterzing) won with a time of 1:07.29 minutes, ahead of her teammates Leonie Girtler (Mauls) and Nora Damian (Tiers). In the men's race, Max Clara (St. Vigil in Enneberg) took first place with a time of 1:06.06 minutes, while two other state team athletes, Noah Gamper (Marling) and Luis Schuster (Rasen), also finished on the podium.
In the U18 category, Elisa Plunger (Seiser Alm Ski Team) and Mattia Chiericato (Kronplatz Ski Team) were crowned the new champions. They finished ahead of Nicole Piccolruaz (SC Gröden) and Mia Kastlunger (Kronplatz Ski Team), and Sebastian Gamper (SC Gröden) and David Angerer (Seiser Alm Ski Team), respectively. The third and fourth Super-G races on the Schöneben slope counted towards the Marlene Cup and also served as a FIS Junior Race. In the Marlene Cup standings, Max Clara and Noah Gamper, both from the South Tyrolean regional team, tied for first place in the men's competition, ahead of Alois Baldini Köllemann. In the women's competition, Nora Damian took first place, followed by Selina Trafoier (SC Ulten) and Elisa Engl (TZ Überetsch Unterland).
Hardworking state squads with strong results
The state ski team had several more races on the schedule last week. Both the women's and men's teams kicked things off with a stage of the Gran Premio d'Italia in Reinswald, with the results also counting towards the FIS rankings. In the first downhill race on Tuesday, Rita Granruaz (Abtei) promptly secured the victory with a time of 58,09 seconds. Leonie Girtler (Mauls) finished third in the FIS rankings behind Switzerland's Laura Huber and second in the U21 category of the Gran Premio, behind Granruaz. The men also competed on the same day, with Matthias Mahlknecht of SC Gröden finishing second behind Ettore Bussei Canone, earning a spot on the Gran Premio U18 podium.Furthermore, FIS races were held at Kronplatz. On Monday, Nadine Trocker (Völs) finished second in the slalom, and on Thursday, regional team athlete Nora Pernstich (Aldein) also achieved this feat, simultaneously winning the U21 category. Two highly competitive Super-G races were held in Pejo on Thursday. In the first, Nicol Delago won ahead of Delia Durrer (Switzerland) and Sara Thaler. Arianna Putzer (SC Gröden) finished fourth overall and thus also won the U18 category. In the U21 category, Ivy Schölzhorn (Sterzing) finished second and Rita Granruaz (Abtei) third. In the second Super-G, Durrer won ahead of Delago and Thaler. This time, Schölzhorn finished fourth overall and thus secured the victory in the U21 category ahead of regional team athlete Nora Damian (Tiers). Putzer won the U18 category.
Slalom races were on the program at FIS races in Soriška Planina, Slovenia, on Sunday, and several South Tyroleans excelled there as well. Lukas Sieder (Freienfeld) from the South Tyrolean state team won the first race ahead of Armenian Gleb Mosesov and Hungarian Richard Leitgeb, while in the second race his teammate Jonas Feichter (Taisten) climbed onto the podium in third place behind Mosesov and Austrian David Hrovath.
Apart from Trocker, no medals at the Junior World Championships
While Anna Trocker from Völs won three medals at the Junior World Championships in Narvik, Norway, the other South Tyrolean participants had less luck in the far north of Europe. On Monday, David Castlunger from Stern and Jakob Franzelin from Aldein competed in the men's team combined event, but both saw their teammates eliminated in the Super-G. In the team parallel event, Victoria Klotz from Bolzano and Castlunger were part of the Italian quartet. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the eventual bronze medalists, Switzerland, and finished in fifth place. When Anna Trocker won gold in the giant slalom last Thursday, Klotz was eliminated in the second run. In the men's giant slalom on Friday, Franzelin (12th) and Castlunger (19th) impressed with two top-20 finishes. On Saturday, it was Anna Trocker's turn again, as she added gold in the slalom to her giant slalom victory. Klotz, however, was eliminated in the first run. The men fared better in the final slalom on Sunday, where Castlunger (10th) and Franzelin (18th) delivered strong performances.
