Fast Norwegians and a sign of life from Maurberger

The Norwegians were already strong the day before in the giant slalom in Alta Badia. In the first run of the slalom on Monday, the Elche went one better. The decision will be made at 1:13.30 p.m.

After the first run, Timon Haugan is three tenths ahead of his teammate Atle Lie McGrath. The 27-year-old Haugan is aiming for his second World Cup victory in the final. A gap opens up: Clement Noel is already one second behind Haugan. The Frenchman made his comeback after an ankle injury. Close behind him are Henrik Kristoffersen and Steven Amiez, who are also in fourth place.

Alex Vinatzer had to wait a long time because a pole had to be repaired. The Val Gardena native then lost his place after just a few goals. Vinatzer's disappointment was evident afterwards. Tobias Kastlunger (23nd) showed a solid run in his home race and is still ahead of Lucas Braathen.

The positive surprise of the day was Simon Maurberger, who raced to 55nd place with the high starting number 22. A strong exclamation mark from the Ahrntaler, who has a much better number in the decision. At the finish, Maurberger, who has not competed in the World Cup for almost a year, was completely overwhelmed and was even overcome by his emotions during an interview. "I am brutally relieved," said the 29-year-old to SportNews. “Now I want to take advantage of the good slope in the second run.”

Matteo Canins finished outside the top 40. The final in Alta Badia, where a slalom is taking place for the first time in four years, begins at 13.30:XNUMX p.m.
