A secret ski hero under the hood

When the ski stars think about themselves in the starting house, when they replay the route exactly in their heads, when they check one last time whether everything in the suit, the shoes, the glasses is in place - then, yes, then it's Joachim Puchner usually already at the finish line. Often with exhausted thighs, often completely out of breath, but always with a quick saying on their lips. The 35-year-old is the ORF camera operator. He lets the spectators get very close to the racing action, commenting on every curve and every jump in real time - on the most difficult tracks in the world. Kitzbühel, Wengen, Val Gardena, Alta Badia – Puchner is always there for the downhill runs, super-Gs and giant slaloms.

His work in the ski circus is no less heroic than that of the professionals. Now the older brother of the Austrian ski racer Mirjam Puchner has experienced a private highlight. At the beginning of June he took his fiancée as his wife. “You are the most wonderful person on earth and have made this day the happiest in my life,” the Upper Austrian wrote about his wedding video on social media and added: “From now on forever.”

The congratulations were numerous and of course also came from the world of skiing. “Congratulations,” commented Anna Veith. Puchner - who used to be a professional skier himself but had to retire early due to an injury - will in future accompany television viewers over the most difficult slopes in the world with a wedding ring on his finger.
