Alice Pazzaglia, who led at the halfway point of the European Cup slalom by 0,40 seconds over eventual winner Moa Boström Mussener, started the second run. However, the 23-year-old Italian didn't even make it to the first split time and was eliminated. Nevertheless, the talented Italian was overjoyed afterward: because Switzerland's Janine Mächler fell behind in the second run, Pazzaglia's victory in the discipline standings was now assured with one race remaining.
Before the final European Cup slalom on March 25th in Schladming, she has 500 points, followed by Mächler (364) and Giulia Valleriani (350). Incidentally, Victoria Klotz, also from South Tyrol, competed in Sweden on Sunday. The 17-year-old from Bolzano fought her way up eight places in the second run and ultimately finished in 22nd place (+1,89).
Pazzaglia is far from finished
Pazzaglia is thus the eighth Italian in history to win the slalom title in the European Cup. In the past, prominent names such as Anna Swenn-Larsson (Sweden), Bernadette Schild (Austria), Michelle Gisin (Switzerland), and Veronika Zuzulová (Slovakia) have also celebrated overall victory in this discipline. For Pazzaglia, the quest for triumphs is far from over. The Italian also leads the overall standings with a comfortable margin with four races remaining. Her closest rival, Swiss skier Stefanie Grob, is already 300 points behind, meaning the Swiss skier would need a miracle to overtake her. Pazzaglia also has high hopes for the giant slalom: she currently sits in third place with 386 points, while Dania Allenbach of Switzerland leads the standings with 438.
