"Just hope" – Liensberger successfully operated

Ski racer Katharina Liensberger has undergone successful knee surgery. "We simply hope and wish her all the best for a speedy recovery. That she'll be able to ski again someday. It's a really serious injury, it has to be said," explained Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) sports director Mario Stecher, who is currently at the Four Hills Tournament for ski jumpers.

Liensberger suffered serious injuries to his right knee in a fall on Friday during a giant slalom training session in St. Michael/Lungau in preparation for the World Cup in Kranjska Gora. (SportNews reported).

At the Hochrum Clinic near Innsbruck, a fractured tibial plateau, a torn meniscus, and a torn medial collateral ligament were diagnosed. The season is over for the 28-year-old.

Stecher emphasized that the fall was "anything but serious." "It was a left turn, which then went into compression, where it then collapsed. And during the collapse, the knee hyperextended. That's how this tibial plateau fracture occurred. There are also minor facial injuries, but I think that's the least of it," Stecher said.
