The scandal surrounding Matthias Mayer in Kitzbühel

At a reception party as part of the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel there was a scandal surrounding the three-time Olympic champion Matthias Mayer. The ÖSV reacts with a press release.

As several media reports, Mayer was expelled from a hall by the police at the Lower Austria reception in Kitzbühel on Thursday because of unpleasant behavior. “Today we had to note with regret that Matthias Mayer has not yet overcome the health problems with which he has been struggling for a long time,” said the ÖSV in a press release.

Mayer, who unexpectedly resigned in December 2022 in Bormio, works for the ÖSV as an advisor to the speed drivers and also looks after the young talent there. At lunchtime he was present at the team hotel for a media round with Austrian journalists, gave an insight into his new job and also explained in retrospect that the time was right to end his career. What had led to this was never made public.

“As the Ski Austria family, we, together with all athletes, colleagues and partners, always gave him support,” the ÖSV also said. “We wish Matthias all the best and hope that he can return to his passion, skiing, as soon as possible. After consulting with his family, we ask for their respect and understanding that we cannot provide any further information.”
