At the turn of the year, Swiss ski racer Lindy Etzensperger says goodbye to active competitive sport - and with it, an eventful chapter for the Swiss ski team comes to an end. The 26-year-old looks back on a career that was not always easy, but all the more impressive. After Reto Schmidiger, Yannick Chabloz and Katja Grossmann, she is already the fourth Swiss athlete to hang up her skis this winter.
Etzensperger made her World Cup debut in March 2019 in the giant slalom in Špindleruv Mlýn (Czech Republic), where she was able to collect World Cup points with a 27th place. But her path to the top was marked by numerous injuries. A severe concussion in particular set her back a long way and called her future in skiing into question. Despite this, she always showed incredible determination and worked her way back, even without an official place in the squad.
One of her greatest successes was winning the bronze medal in the Super-G at the 2019 Junior World Championships in Val di Fassa. She also celebrated a victory in the European Cup. In an emotional farewell message on social media, she expressed her gratitude: "I am extremely proud of my career and, above all, of the fact that I never let myself get down despite my injuries." For her, her time in ski racing was "a wonderful phase full of unforgettable moments."
