Canins' first World Cup points: "Finally done!"

Matteo Canins scored his first World Cup points at the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio. The South Tyrolean was pleased afterwards and hopes that things will continue this way.

Matteo Canins is no longer a youngster. The 27-year-old from San Cassiano has been competing since... Wednesday evening in Madonna di Campiglio He scored his first points in the Ski World Cup. Although the second run didn't go quite as planned (Canins finished last), the South Tyrolean was still satisfied.

“I finally did it. I’ve had to fight hard these past few years, and now the hard work has paid off. I could have skied better in the second run; I made a lot of mistakes there,” said Canins. Nevertheless, he was pleased: “I’m happy that I scored points.” For the coming weeks, which will be very intense with classic races in Wengen, Adelboden, and Kitzbühel, Canins sees the Azzurri well-prepared: “We’re all skiing well at the moment. I think we can pull off a surprise in the next races.”

Vinatzer laments: “It hurts”

Alex Vinatzer was less fortunate, having to retire in the first run. The Val Gardena native was eliminated. "I lost my rhythm on the steep section. I wanted to execute the transition perfectly and ended up being too close. I'm really sorry. With all the fans behind us, it would have been a great race. Yes, it hurts."
