First Bormio training: Sarrazin fastest, Innnerhofer strong

The speed skiers in the Ski World Cup did not have a long Christmas break. The first downhill training was scheduled for Boxing Day in Bormio. The Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin shone with the best time, Christof Innerhofer also did well with fifth place. Things did not go so well for the other South Tyroleans.

Things went particularly badly for Dominik Paris. The Ultner is always one of the favorites on the Stelvio, and he has already won a World Cup in Bormio 7 times. However, he was eliminated in the first training session. "Today it didn't go well, I have to analyze it again. The snow is different along the course, I still have to get used to that," Paris told the FISI after training. However, since the first training session is never particularly informative, the Ultner should not be worried.

Things went better for three other Italians. Mattia Casse was the second fastest, 1,07 seconds behind Sarrazin, Innerhofer came fifth and youngster Giovanni Franzoni attracted attention with ninth place. The other South Tyroleans also had a tough time. Florian Schieder (Kastelruth) came 56th, while Max Perathoner from Val Gardena had to settle for 66th place in his Bormio debut.

The second training session will continue in Bormio on Friday (11.30 a.m.). The races are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, with the downhill race taking place first on the Stelvio, followed by the Super-G.
