“It’s no longer enough”: Swiss ski ace quits

Last weekend a Swiss ski career came to an end in Kvitfjell, Norway.

Anyone who competes in 100 World Cup races has achieved something remarkable in their career. Ralph Weber celebrated this special anniversary on Saturday in the Kvitfjell downhill run, which is not reserved for many ski racers. But it is also clear that there will be no further races for the 30-year-old Swiss. After his 47th place in the far north, the veteran ended his career.

Weber has finished in the top 20 numerous times in his career, his best result being 10th. Last season the Swiss was slowed down by a herniated disc. This year he wanted to attack again, but he never really got going.

“As the season progressed, I had to admit to myself that it was no longer enough,” explains Weber in a video on Instagram. The decision to resign came about at the turn of the year. “When I crossed the finish line in Wengen, I knew that was it.”

What Weber will do in the future is still up in the air. “A whole life changes,” says the Swiss and adds: “I want to let it happen to me and want to find myself.” One thing is certain: Weber now has more time for his family.
