For the Olympics: Lindsey Vonn hires a superstar

The American has added Norwegian former ski racer Aksel Lund Svindal to her coaching team. She is "extremely excited about the upcoming journey," the 40-year-old wrote on Instagram. She has long maintained a "great friendship with Svindal based on great mutual respect," Vonn continued.

The new World Cup season begins on October 25 and 26 in Sölden. The highlight of the winter will be the Olympic Games in Italy from February 6 to 22. Vonn hopes to compete for one more medal at Cortina d'Ampezzo to round off her career.

Vonn experienced highs and lows in her comeback season. The World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm were disappointing for her. However, she achieved three top-ten results in the World Cup, including second place in the Super-G in Sun Valley. The US star's return after a nearly six-year World Cup hiatus caused quite a stir. The two-time world champion and 82-time World Cup winner, who suffered serious injuries throughout her career, now skis with a partial knee replacement.
