Slowed down but not beaten: Kilde does not give up

Skiing demands everything from its athletes - Alexander Aamodt Kilde is currently experiencing this first hand. The Norwegian had a serious fall during a downhill race in February and crashed into the safety net at around 100 km/h. At times his life was even in danger. The season ended abruptly at the time, but now the ski star has once again caused long faces with a new message on social media.

"So guys, let's keep it short: It's been a wild journey so far and we're not quite done yet: another operation, another rehab and no racing this winter. But believe me - I'll be back," Kilde told the winter sports world. Instead of skiing down the most spectacular slopes in the world this season, he will focus entirely on his rehab. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old stressed that he is not giving up skiing and is not currently planning to retire.

The path is getting longer The reason for this decision is the ongoing complications with his injury. In July, Kilde had to undergo another operation on his shoulder because he was feeling pain again. In August, he was hospitalized again in Innsbruck after an infection occurred in the operated shoulder. It is precisely this infection that is now forcing Kilde to undergo another operation, which is needed for the shoulder to heal completely.

"The infection was there for so long that it attacked my bone," Kilde explained. "Two muscles are still not connected, so I have to have another operation and rebuild everything again. I won't be able to race this season." The price he will have to pay for this is at least the 2024/25 season.

Relationship and Study Despite the health setbacks, Kilde finds ways to distract himself. On the one hand, he will attend some races as a spectator, and on the other hand, he has enrolled in a distance learning course in London to study finance and real estate management. Things are also going well for the 32-year-old in his private life: he is happily in a relationship with ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin. Shiffrin recently revealed in an interview: "At some point I want to start a family. There are many other things in life that are becoming more and more important to me."
