Will Rast pull off a double coup in Kranjska Gora?

Following her victory in the giant slalom, Switzerland's Camille Rast is also leading the slalom in Kranjska Gora. If she maintains this lead, it would be a first in the current World Cup season.

There have been five slalom races so far, and Mikaela Shiffrin has finished on top every time. Will the American achieve a sixth victory in Kranjska Gora – or can Camille Rast defend her place at the top?

The fact is, the Swiss skier is in the lead after the first run. However, her advantage isn't particularly large at ten hundredths of a second. Wendy Holdener, in third place at the break, is already 0,77 seconds behind her teammate. Barring a skiing miracle, Rast and Shiffrin will be battling for the win in Slovenia.

Many dropouts in the first run

The first run in Kranjska Gora was marked not only by the duel between Rast and Shiffrin, but also by numerous DNFs. Even stars like Zrinka Ljutiv (CRO), Lara Colturi (ALB) and Laurence St. Germain (CAN) succumbed to the tricky course and will not be in the final (starting at 12:15 pm).

The Italian team showed signs of life. Lara Della Mea is in 7th place (+1,27 seconds), Martina Peterlini is 13th with a 1,72-second deficit, giving her a good starting position for the second run. Giulia Valleriani (+2,69), starting with the high bib number 40, finished in 20th place. No skiers from South Tyrol are competing.
