First, the Italian won almost everything there was to win (including the overall World Cup), then her horrific crash at the Italian Championships, a seemingly insignificant race, caused consternation. A broken tibia and a torn cruciate ligament—the 34-year-old has had a rough go of it.

A few days have passed, and Brignone can already laugh a little again. "The 2024/25 season ended with a bang, I would have preferred it to have been the one with the champagne bottle," she wrote, adding a laughing emoji.
