Shiffrin crashed into the net.

Helicopter operation: Big concerns for Mikaela Shiffrin

This is just unreal! The women's downhill run in Cortina d'Ampezzo has claimed a prominent victim in Mikaela Shiffrin.

Petra Vlhova, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Alexis Pinturault, Marco Schwarz – numerous stars have already been injured this ski season. Is there now the next high-profile failure? The ski world was worried for a long time on Friday about Mikaela Shiffrin, who fell badly on the descent in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Fortunately, after an initial examination in the afternoon, there was a slight all-clear for the 28-year-old.

The American, who leads the overall World Cup by a respectable margin, flew a little too far during a jump, came off the line, tried to save herself, but ended up falling and crashing into the safety net. There was great fear because Shiffrin remained lying there for minutes, even when help rushed to the scene.

Afterwards there was a slight sigh of relief because the 95-time World Cup winner was able to get up on her own. However, Shiffrin's left knee appears to have been affected. The best skier of all time was unable to perform, limped off the slopes and was then taken away by helicopter.

Curious: Just two weeks ago, Shiffrin's friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde fell badly in Wengen and had to end his season early. Just a few minutes to Shiffrin Corinne Suter is also injured. Click here for the Report of the race.
