Hirscher: “I’m counting the days until my comeback”

Marcel Hirscher is working on his comeback after suffering a cruciate ligament tear. While speculation about a return date is already underway in Austria, the 36-year-old has provided an update on his condition in his blog.

"My patience has been severely tested. I see how everyone is getting back on skis. I'm counting the days until the comeback," says Marcel Hirscher on his Van Deer blog. The Salzburg native, who made his World Cup return for the Netherlands, wants to be back skiing as early as September. "That's our plan; we'll take it step by step," says Hirscher.

Numerous ski aces, including Henrik Kristoffersen, have departed for New Zealand in recent days. Hirscher will not be making the trip to the other side of the world – but is still fully on schedule. "I didn't experience any pain during the rehab phase. It couldn't have gone better," said Hirscher, who sustained the injury on December 2, 2024, while training on the Reiteralm. The doctors are also very pleased with how the healing process is progressing, according to the eight-time overall World Cup winner.

Comeback already in Sölden?

With all this positive news, it's no wonder that speculation is already brewing in Austria about Hirscher's comeback date. Even a participation in the World Cup opening in Sölden on October 26 cannot be ruled out, according to reports from the Alpine republic. Salzburger Nachrichten Hirscher will also train on South Tyrolean snow this fall, according to reports. He also plans to spend time in Swiss and Austrian glacier ski resorts.
