To be in top form for the battle for the small crystal globe in the downhill World Cup, Laura Pirovano has come up with a plan. The skier from Trentino is traveling to Åre, where, however, no downhill race is on the program. Instead, Pirovano will compete in the giant slalom this weekend – for the first time in two years. Her last giant slalom race was on the Erta slope at Kronplatz.
However, the Italian team's focus in the giant slalom is on Asja Zenere. She is currently 20th in the overall standings before the final race in Sweden and hopes to qualify for the World Cup Finals in Hafjell. To do so, Zenere needs to remain in the top 25 of the giant slalom World Cup standings. This is certainly within her grasp.
Is Steinmair allowed to start in the slalom?
From a South Tyrolean perspective, the main focus is on Laura Steinmair. The skier from Gsies is the only South Tyrolean who traveled to Åre. Steinmair will start in the giant slalom on Saturday and possibly in the slalom on Sunday. The coaching team will decide, as Sophie Mathiou could also get a chance. In the latter discipline, Martina Peterlini is aiming for a World Cup Finals ticket. The skier from Trentino is currently ranked 23rd in the slalom standings.World Cup in Åre: The nominated Azzurre
