Now there's clarity: This is how Sofia Goggia is really doing
Sofia Goggia gave her fans a scare when she had to cut short the training camp in South America due to health problems. The eagerly awaited update on the 33-year-old's health will be available this Friday morning.

Sofia Goggia was supposed to be in Chile these days with her South Tyrolean teammates, including Nicol Delago, to complete their usual downhill training. However, this didn't happen because Italy's skiing star complained of feeling unwell and returned home early. Tests at the La Madonnina hospital in Milan were to determine her condition.
These tests revealed two different viral infections, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) announced on Friday. "Together, these viruses led to severe physical effects and a weakening of the athlete. Goggia has already begun the rehabilitation program, which was developed in collaboration with the FISI medical commission chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri," according to a press release.

The entire training block that Goggia was supposed to complete in Chile is therefore cancelled. This has a particularly negative impact on the speed disciplines, in which the Bergamasque skier is known to excel. However, the first women's speed weekend isn't until December 9th to 13th in Beaver Creek (USA), giving her a chance to make up for the lost training time.Sofia Goggia needs to take a break. © Pentaphoto
Whether she will start at the season opener in Sölden is uncertain. The giant slalom on the Rettenbachferner glacier takes place on October 24th. Goggia, who achieved two top-10 finishes in this discipline last season, would be a guaranteed spot on Italy's team. One thing is certain: this is not an ideal preseason, even though the Italian was able to work extensively on her giant slalom form in Ushuaia, Argentina, before her departure.
