“No racing for me”: Ski ace puts career on hold

There's a lot going on in Andrea Ellenberger's life right now. In July, the Swiss skier celebrated a dream wedding at a picturesque estate in Tuscany. While the 32-year-old is on a high in her private life, her sporting future is more open than ever.

Looking back. Last December, Andrea Ellenberger received bad news. The technical specialist broke her leg during training. A serious and long-lasting injury, which led Ellenberger to declare: "I will not be competing in the 2025/26 season."

"The leg is healing, and the nerves also seem to be slowly making progress. Nevertheless, it requires a lot of patience and acceptance. I still have a lot of metal in my leg, especially in the ski boot area. Therefore, it's not possible to ski at the level I'd like," says Ellenberger. “It’s a difficult path.” Andrea Ellenberger Since the metal can't be removed until December, Ellenberger won't be competing in any races next winter. "I'm aware of the consequences this will have for my (skiing) future. And it's a difficult path," said the Swiss, who has competed in the World Cup starting gate 53 times in her career.

She starts a new job Ellenberger, who is currently working hard on her rehabilitation, is already reorienting herself. "I'm starting a new job in two weeks. I'll also soon be completing my master's degree in psychology and will begin training as a sports psychologist in the fall," says the Swiss native.

"A lot is happening in my life right now. But the most important thing right now is to give myself some rest. The mental strain of the last few months has been enormous." Her skiing career is therefore on hold – it remains to be seen whether the Swiss skier will ever return.
