Kristoffersen and Hirscher: Abrupt end to their skiing marriage

A bombshell in the ski world: Henrik Kristoffersen and Marcel Hirscher's team will be going their separate ways in the future.

Norwegian ski racer Henrik Kristoffersen and ski equipment manufacturer Van Deer-Red Bull Sports are parting ways after four years together. The ski brand, founded by Marcel Hirscher, announced the split on Tuesday.

“Henrik made a crucial contribution with his outstanding performances in our first World Cup year,” said Van Deer manager Anton Giger, looking ahead to the 2022/23 season when Kristoffersen won two World Cup races and World Championship gold in slalom. At the Winter Olympics in Italy in February, the Norwegian won slalom bronze.

Giger spoke of the "right time" to part ways. It was described as a "mutual" decision. Kristoffersen also won the slalom crystal globe with the Salzburg-based ski brand last year and recorded six World Cup victories – most recently in Schladming at the end of January.

“The experience of starting with equipment from a new ski brand and being successful in the World Cup right away was unique,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying.
