Kristoffersen makes Odermatt sweat

Marco Odermatt didn't let the best time be taken away from him in the first giant slalom run in Palisades Tahoe (California), but suddenly an old adversary is back at the front.

The closest to the Swiss on Saturday was the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, who has been weak this season, 0,15 seconds behind. Third at halftime is the American River Radamus (+0,78).

The best Italian in the first round was Filippo Della Vite, who finished twelfth immediately ahead of his teammates Luca De Aliprandini and Alex Vinatzer ranked in the ranking. The latter got off to a good start, but was already more than a second behind after the second split. After that, he kept the gap in check and a top ten placement within reach.

Things didn't go as planned for the second South Tyrolean, Hannes Zingerle. He lost valuable time on the upper flat section and ended up narrowly missing out on qualifying for the second run.

“Odi” grabs the ball

After the race in California, Odermatt could have mathematically fixed the big crystal ball for winning the overall World Cup. If the 26-year-old is more than 1.000 points ahead of his first pursuer (currently Cyprien Sarrazin), everything is clear. The second round starts at 22 p.m. CET (in SportNews-Ticker). After the giant slalom in Palisades Tahoe, there are ten more races this season.

Odermatt has won the last nine giant slaloms in the World Cup. Only the Swede Ingemar Stenmark (14 giant slaloms/1978-1979) and the Austrian Annemarie Moser-Pröll (11 downhill races/1972-1974) had longer winning streaks than ten races in a row.
