In January 2024, Petra Vlhova suffered a torn cruciate ligament. Normally, such an injury heals in six months, but for the Slovakian, it has now been two years. As a result, the 30-year-old had to undergo another operation in the spring of 2025. But now the former overall World Cup champion is back with exciting news.
“Hello dear fans! I have an important update for you,” Vlhova said in a video message on Instagram on Saturday. “I just completed a medical check. Based on the results, my medical team and physiotherapists have deemed me 100 percent healthy. So I can ski at full intensity again,” Vlhova said.

Then came the news about the Olympic Games. "It might sound a bit crazy, but even though there are only a few days left until the Olympic Games, I have decided to fight for a place," said a visibly delighted Vlhova.
A decision will be made 48 hours before the race.
She could not guarantee that she would achieve this goal. "But I promise that I will give my all every day to earn the chance to be part of the Slovak Olympic team. Out of respect for my body, I will decide about starting in the slalom 48 hours before the race (February 18th, editor's note)," Vlhova outlined her plan.Vlhova is still the reigning Olympic champion and one of the best skiers of our time. She could therefore make an emotional comeback at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina.
