“Please let’s not make such a fuss anymore”

Skiing giant Hirscher showed that he can keep up with the world's best after a five-year break. Braathen, with number 41, proved his potential to soon become a real big player himself. "I'm on a mission," said the 24-year-old after his fourth place and fastest time in the final.

The tension in the air was almost palpable during the pair's four races. It doesn't take a gift of prophecy to predict that Braathen will soon be back on the podium. On Sunday, he missed it by just 0,24 seconds - in his first race for Brazil. "I see a flag on the leaderboard that I've never seen there before," he said. Marcel Hirscher spoke of "one of the most emotional days of my life" after his 23rd place. The 35-year-old had only finally decided to start in Sölden on Friday, although not everything had gone smoothly during the preparation. "It was great that it went so well," he said afterwards. "The improvement in the second run was fantastic. It felt like there had hardly been a mistake. It's crazy! I really wonder where that came from," said the man who won the overall World Cup eight times in a row from 2012 to 2019 and won 67 World Cup races.

Hirscher gives interview in Dutch "It's great to ski without pressure or obligations. In the past, I felt more or less obliged to finish at least in the top two, but now it was brilliant to qualify for the second run," explained the two-time Olympic champion and seven-time world champion. Hirscher also gave an interview partly in Dutch. The Salzburg native will now compete for his mother's home country; he is a dual citizen. "I'll let you know." "As long as I'm fit and can ski like I have in the last few weeks, and as long as I continue to enjoy it so much, I'll do some races," Hirscher announced. There is no specific plan, however. It is not yet clear whether he will start in Levi in mid-November. "But please let's not make such a fuss like we are now about whether I go or not. I'll let you know."
