Marta Bassino: A pit stop at the operating table

Ski star Marta Bassino, who missed last season due to a serious injury, had to go under the knife again.

It was one of the bitterest moments in Marta Bassino's career: at the end of October 2025, the former Super-G world champion crashed during a training run in Schnals and suffered serious injuries. A broken tibia, a torn collateral ligament in her knee, and a meniscus injury were the devastating diagnoses. The consequence: surgery and no Winter Olympics in her native Italy.

However, Bassino quickly realized that she wanted to fight her way back after this injury. And so, the 30-year-old from Cuneo has already been making her first turns on the slopes again in recent weeks. Now, however, Bassino has had to undergo another, minor surgical procedure.

"A quick pit stop to remove some 'stuff' that isn't mine," Bassino wrote on Instagram. This means the shin plate from the first surgery was removed, and the condition of the knee joint was checked.

Skiing in the summer

"I'm very happy because everything is going according to plan," Bassino said in an initial statement. "I'll be on crutches for a few days, then physiotherapy will begin, and with it, preparation for the new season. I'll also be training on skis in the summer," Bassino outlined his strategy.
