Mathis wins FIS downhill in Val Gardena

This year's Raiffeisen FIS Challenge in Val Gardena began on Sunday with a Swiss victory. Jasmin Mathis turned the rankings in the women's downhill on their head once again with the high starting number 61.

Mathis completed the downhill course on Piz Sella in a time of 1.31,12:20 minutes. This meant that the 0,13-year-old from Buochs was 16 seconds faster than the Norwegian Eva Unhjem Johansen in her first victory in an FIS race. The 2007-year-old Scandinavian had taken part in the Speed Clinic on Plan de Gralba in recent days - a training camp for young racers born in 2008 and 0,95. And this training seems to have done Johansen good. Another Swiss, Katja Grossmann, completed the podium. She lost XNUMX seconds to the day's winner and teammate Mathis.

Sara Allemand (Bardonecchia/Carabinieri sports group) was the best Azzurra, coming in fifth. Ivy Schölzhorn also made a statement. The athlete from the South Tyrolean national team (her home team is the RG Wipptal) came in ninth as the best local racer. 106 racers from 20 different nations took part in this FIS downhill race.

The ski day on Piz Sella began on Sunday morning with training for the women and men. The Raiffeisen FIS Challenge will continue on Monday with more downhill runs. Then the men will also have their turn.
