“My heart is crying”: Goggia emotional before Super-G

The next Olympic champion will be crowned on Thursday on the Tofana slope in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Sofia Goggia showed her emotional side before the Super-G.

It's already clear that Lindsey Vonn's tragedy will occupy a prominent place in the retrospective of the Winter Olympics. In the Olympic downhill race, where the 41-year-old American, sporting an artificial knee joint, hoped to achieve legendary status, she suffered a brutal crash. Diagnosis: Open fracture of her lower leg.

This drama also shook her fellow skiers – especially Sofia Goggia, who has a good relationship with Vonn. Before the Super-G on Thursday, the Bergamasque skier said: “I have her Instagram post I read it, and I must say: My heart is crying.”

Goggia continues: "That she's now in the hospital at 41, with a broken leg, after all the effort she's put in, after a season she dominated – it breaks my heart." Lindsey Vonn's motto is "Never give up." "I see myself in that. Giving up is not for me."

President Mattarella is coming to the Super-G

Goggia will compete in the Super-G on Thursday alongside Federica Brignone, Laura Pirovano, and Elena Curtoni. The race starts at 11:30 a.m. on the Tofana slope. The event is already taking on a special significance: President Sergio Mattarella has announced his attendance.
