With a flaw: Shiffrin is back

Exactly 60 days after her fateful fall at the home World Cup in Killington, Mikaela Shiffrin returned to the World Cup on Thursday in the slalom in Courchevel. In the first run, Shiffrin put herself in a waiting position, while a South Tyrolean surprised.

The 29-year-old has not competed since the end of November, as she sustained an abdominal muscle injury with a seven-centimeter-deep wound on the way to her supposed 100th World Cup victory. An operation followed in December. On Thursday, Shiffrin finally made her comeback, exactly two months to the day after the Killington crash.

Shiffrin had a few problems in the upper section. It was only in the last flat section that the American showed her strengths, and she ended up in fifth place. She is 87 hundredths of a second behind the leader Zrinka Ljutic. However, Shiffrin is only two tenths behind the podium. Katharina Liensberger (+0,67) is currently in third place.

Wendy Holdener, however, is seriously challenging Ljutic for victory in the final (from 20 p.m.). The Swiss is only 19 hundredths behind the Croatian prodigy. The best Azzurra is Martina Peterlini in 17th place. Vera Tschurtschenthaler from Sexten, with starting number 44, sensationally raced to 20th place and is therefore in the second run. Celina Haller, on the other hand, finished outside the top 30.
