But first things first: In December 2019, Rasmus Windingstad's great moment came in Alta Badia of all places, when he achieved his first World Cup victory in the spectacular parallel event. “I thought, now the knot has been broken, now my career is taking off. But then everything turned out differently,” the technology specialist told the Norwegian media.

The skiing hopeful soon began to experience back pain, which only got worse over time. The result: Windingstad had to end its season early. It turned out that the Norwegian had suffered a spinal disc injury. The ski star healed from this injury during the Corona break and wanted to attack again in August. But the pain was still the same. It was a mystery even to the doctors: the injury seems to have healed, but it still hurts. “The experts say that it is not dangerous to ski. I just have to endure the pain.” That’s easier said than done. A tough test This story was also a mental stress test for Windingstad. “I was no longer able to do what I like, like water skiing, cycling or playing golf. If I had done it and my back problems had gotten worse, everyone would have called me an idiot,” explains the 26-year-old.

Of course you start to have doubts. “I don't know how many times I thought it wasn't working anymore. I kept asking myself: “Are all these sacrifices to be able to ski worth it?” says Windingstad. But the Norwegian doesn't want to give up yet. He is currently slowed down by a foot injury, but it should heal shortly. Then he wants to really attack in December. “I don’t want to give up until the pain gets worse,” says the Alta Badia winner combatively.
