After 2 years: Hector breaks the spell

Sara Hector was unbeatable today. She left Mikaela Shiffrin and Alice Robinson behind with a big lead and finally won a World Cup race again after almost exactly two years (giant slalom at Kronplatz 2022).

In perfect weather and slope conditions, the women raced for victory in the giant slalom in Jasna on Saturday. After the first round, Sara Hector was comfortably in first place, one second ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin and Alice Robinson. The Swede impressively expanded this in the second run and was celebrated as the deserved winner in Slovakia. Shiffrin and Robinson were happy with second and third place.

Robinson made a furious run, but the New Zealander made a small mistake that was her downfall compared to Mikaela Shiffrin. The US shooting star knew that she had to give it her all due to the large gap to Hector and conjured up a strong run in the snow. She outclassed Robinson with a lead of 1,19 seconds.

But there was still one person at the top who was really keen to win in Slovakia. For two years without a win, the Swede wanted to finally be at the top again - and demonstrated her unfailing nerve. Hector gave Shiffrin another 0,52 seconds and rode towards her victory as if on rails. She was the outstanding runner of the day and was cheered by the fans at the finish. Camille Rast from Switzerland was already over 5 seconds behind the 31-year-old.

Platino with the best result of the season

After her 13th place in the first run, Elisa Platino also delivered a solid performance in the second, only losing two positions and was happy with 15th place, the best result of this World Cup season. In addition to the woman from Meran, two other Azzurres took part in the second run. Asja Zenere ended up in 19th place and Lara Della Mea took 26th place.

While these women were celebrating at the finish, Petra Vlhova is currently being treated in hospital after her fall.
