Ilaria Ghisalberti won the giant slalom.

Italian Championship: Result becomes a secondary matter

The Italian Ski Championships in giant slalom took place in Val di Fassa on Thursday. After Federica Brignone's heavy fall, which forced the race to be interrupted, the result became a minor matter.

Brignone led the Italian Giant Slalom Championships at halftime, but then failed to finish. The reason: A nasty fall that could have serious consequences for the overall World Cup winners. The entire field reacted with shock when Brignone was taken away by rescue helicopter.

The result subsequently became a secondary issue. Ilaria Ghisalberti, second after the first run, took Brignone's place and is the new Italian giant slalom champion. For Ghisalberti, this is her first Italian title. Lara Della Mea finished 2 hundredths of a second behind in second place. Bronze went to Asja Zenere (+1). The best South Tyrolean was Laura Steinmair in fifth place (+1), followed by Elisa Platino in eighth place (+61).
