After a difficult time: Marta Bassino is back

Marta Bassino missed the entire 2025/26 Olympic season. Now the Italian has made her comeback on skis.

More than five months after her serious injury, Marta Bassino has returned to skiing for rehabilitation purposes on her home slope in Limone Piemonte. Accompanied by technical director Gianluca Rulfi and coach Thierry Marguerettaz, the 30-year-old completed several free training runs.

The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) announced this on Monday. Bassino crashed during a training run in Schnals just before the start of the season and suffered serious injuries. The athlete from Cuneo was diagnosed with a fracture of the tibial plateau in her left leg. Bassino also sustained injuries to her medial collateral ligament and meniscus.

Missed the Olympic winter

Bassino won a total of seven World Cup races in her career. The Italian also won the World Championship title twice. Missing out on the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina was a tough blow for Bassino. Now, a comeback is being targeted for the upcoming season.
