ÖSV ace out injured for home race

Katharina Gallhuber will not be competing in her home slalom on the Semmering on Sunday. The Lower Austrian has to miss the World Cup competition due to knee problems that have been ongoing since mid-November and is taking a two-week break.

"It's really hard to accept and also mentally very hard. During the last training session I simply realised that it was pointless because my knee just wasn't working," Gallhuber is quoted as saying in an ÖSV press release.

The knee was already making itself felt before the World Cup in Levi (25th place), and everything was tried to get it under control. "There were always bright spots, but at the end of the day the result was swelling in the knee. I'm now trying to let it heal conservatively."

The knee needs rest so that the inflammation can subside. "It really hurts not to be at the home World Cup, but the top priority now is to get back to 100 percent physical fitness," said the 27-year-old. After Levi, she finished 16th in the other season races in Gurgl, but in Killington she dropped out in the first round.
