The daughter of former skiing great Anita Wachter, Amanda Salzgeber, fell during the descent and, according to initial examinations in Switzerland, suffered a complex knee injury. The initial medical treatment revealed a suspected cruciate ligament tear as well as tears in the medial ligament and the outer and inner meniscus. As she now announced on social media, this also means the end of the season - and at the most festive time of the year.
In the post, Salzgeber let her feelings run free: "Dear Santa Claus, I wished for everything, but definitely not a shot knee. My poor heart is bleeding. The season is over." At the same time, she expressed her gratitude for the support of her family: "Thank you mom and dad for always supporting me. Now it's time to go home for Christmas."
Promising career interrupted
Salzgeber, who has been considered one of the greatest talents in Austrian skiing in recent years, has already made a name for herself in the European Cup. Her technique and versatility have repeatedly allowed her to grow into the role of the ÖSV team's beacon of hope. The current setback therefore hits her all the harder, but her fighting spirit remains undiminished.Ski star Lindsey Vonn was one of those who wished her a speedy recovery. She too has found herself caught in a situation like Salzgeber's several times and has come back stronger each time.
