Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) Super-G slump: worst result in 30 years

Cornelia Hütter finished fifth in the final Super-G of the season on Sunday. This marked the end of a forgettable winter for the Austrian women in this discipline.

Upon reaching the finish line, the Olympic bronze medalist was in third place and could still hope for Austria's first World Cup podium finish of the season in the women's Super-G. However, fourth-placed German Emma Aicher (+0,61) and Suter were faster than the 33-year-old. Team combined Olympic champion Ariane Rädler finished seventh (+1,19), Mirjam Puchler twelfth (+1,97), and Nina Ortlieb 21st (+2,67). Victory and Crystal Globe Meanwhile, they went to Sofia Goggia.


For the first time since the 1996/97 season, the Austrian women failed to achieve a top-three finish in the Super-G, a discipline that has been part of the World Cup since the 1980s. Back then, they had at least managed a fourth-place finish, but that eluded them this time. Hütter's fifth place in Kvitfjell is their best result of the season, and a sixth-place finish in Val-d'Isère is also attributable to the speed specialist.

The Olympics remain the bright spot in the Super-G

At least: In the most important race of the season, the Austrian team had every reason to celebrate. At the Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Hütter raced to a bronze medal in the Super-G. "I don't want to complain, but I just don't like this snow," she summarized her run in Norway in an interview with the [newspaper name]. Regarding her own future, Hütter remained tight-lipped. "If I set the ball rolling now with certain statements in the interview," she said with a grin, "of course, there are things you'd like to have and demands you're entitled to make as an experienced athlete. But there's nothing specific that I'd say my career depends on right now."
