Sofia Goggia is generally known as a skier who knows no limits on the slopes. This regularly puts the 33-year-old in a tightrope walk, the outcome of which is almost impossible to predict. But when everything comes together for the Italian, her aggressive skiing style makes her unstoppable – as was the case on Sunday in the Super-G in Soldeu. There, Goggia prevailed with an uncompromising run, securing her second victory of the season. She had already finished third in the downhill on Friday..
Behind Italy, Germany's Emma Aicher (+0,24 seconds) and Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (+0,31) celebrated their podium finishes. Olympic champion Federica Brignone, however, got off to a poor start and was chasing a deficit from the beginning. The reigning overall World Cup champion therefore finished in eighth place (+0,99).
Goggia takes the lead in the battle for the crystal ball.
For Goggia, the triumph in Soldeu was not only her 28th World Cup victory, but also an important statement in the battle for the small crystal globe. With two races remaining, she holds 420 points in the standings, followed by Alice Robinson (336), who finished seventh on Sunday (+0,94), and Aicher (304). While Goggia has already celebrated four downhill crystal globes, her best result in the Super-G so far was third place in the 2024/25 season.Sofia Goggia triumphed in Soldeu. © APA/afp / LIONEL BONAVENTURE
Three South Tyrolean skiers were also competing: the two Delago sisters, Nicol and Nadia, and Sara Thaler. Thaler improved her pace from one split time to the next, but ultimately missed out on points by just under three-tenths of a second (38th/+3,25). Nicol Delago, meanwhile, collected some points with a 27th-place finish (+2,80), while her sister finished further back (41st/+3,32). The World Cup continues next Friday with the downhill race in Val di Fassa (starting at 11:30 a.m.). SportNewslive ticker).
