The on-snow training season is gradually drawing closer for Italy's ski stars. As every year, the Azzurri are heading to South America – but not all of them will be following the same program.

La Parva and Valle Nevado in Chile and Ushuaia in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego are the preferred destinations for Italians during the summer months. This year is no exception. Rising star Giovanni Franzoni is the first Italian to head to South America and will be carving turns in Ushuaia starting in mid-August.
Dominik Paris, on the other hand, is taking his time. The Ultental native hasn't completed his entire summer training camp with the team for years. He won't be traveling to Ushuaia this summer either, the speed star revealed to the daily newspaper. South Tyrol“For me, it makes no sense to train on the glacier in these conditions. I prefer to stay home and complete my fitness program,” said Paris.

The icy slopes of Ushuaia are primarily used for giant slalom and slalom training, which isn't the ideal environment for Paris, even though Argentina was originally on the itinerary. "I haven't done that in recent years. I don't ski on ice; you just scratch your skis," the 37-year-old South Tyrolean said in his usual mischievous manner. Paris will therefore only travel to South America in September to train with the speed team in Chile.
