Wendy Holdener was struck by a stroke of fate.

Stroke of fate in the family: great sadness for the ski star

Wendy Holdener is one of the biggest figureheads in skiing. But now the multiple world champion and World Cup winner has to cope with a stroke of fate in her family.

“It has never been so difficult for us, the Holdener family, to give a message”: With these words, Wendy Holdener addressed the public on Thursday evening via Swiss Ski. The three-time world champion was struck by a stroke of fate: her brother Kevin died at the age of just 34.

“Kevin was 20 years old when he was diagnosed with a rare and complex form of cancer, which was a difficult ordeal for him and our entire family. Cancer thwarted Kevin’s dream of having his own skiing career,” writes Wendy Holdener. “But Kevin impressed us with his will to survive and his love of life; he bravely stood up to the disease and was able to gain a few more valuable years of life from it.”

Wendy Holdener posted this photo on Instagram just four days ago: It shows the Swiss woman skiing with her brother Kevin.

After a long struggle, Kevin Holdener, who also worked as manager for his sister Wendy for a long time, has now died. “Kevin's death is heartbreaking and leaves a void in our family and community that will never be filled. We are incredibly sad. We ask you to remember Kevin fondly – and to give us time,” were the emotional words of the slalom specialist.

In addition to his sister Wendy, Kevin is survived by his parents, his brother Steve and his wife Carmen.
